To join with the rest of the class on the day of the session, log in using the link sent to you by the MAFA staff.
Don't feel that you need to actually be present for all sessions. They will be recorded and you're encouraged to download and keep them to review at your leisure.
This class web page will remain active through April 15, two months after the last day of class. Be sure to download any of the information you'd like to retain access to before then.
Each session is two hours long but I do have a tendency to run over if there are a lot of questions - and questions are very welcome.
The program is intense and I cover a lot of ground. Don't plan on being able to work along with me during class – instead, sit back with your favorite beverage and follow along as I go through all of the vital steps. You'll be able to ask questions at any point along the way.
Once the session for the day is over, you'll be able to try out all of the techniques covered at your own pace. Time is reserved at the beginning of each session to address any questions or issues that may have come up while honing your skills between sessions.
If you didn't order a supply kit, please check below to see what the kit contained to give you an idea of what you'll need to follow along with the lessons presented.
All kits have been mailed out. If your ordered one and haven't received a tracking number for it, plase contact me at John@JohnMarshall.to

The kits are sold out.

Vimeo recordings - Recorded class sessions can sometimes be a bit spotty depending on internet connections and the ether gods.
The links below are to the video clips I've used in today's session, just a bit higher resolution and no bumps. They have no sound since I use them to speak over in class, and you won't be able to download them.
You will be able to view them for as long as this web page is up. Use the access code MAFAindigo

Have a question? You're probably not the only one.
Don't see the answer to your question below? Feel free to write me and ask.

Am I required to purchase the kit for this course?
No. The kit is optional. I've pulled together what I think will be the most useful tools and supplies for you based on the lessons I've prepared. You may prefer to wait to pick and chose the supplies you'd like to order once you've experienced the program, or you may prefer to order in larger quantities than that offered in the kits.
There are only a limited number of kits prepared.
What's included in the kit?
Click on the following text to scroll down and find out more. Scroll down.

If I do order the kit, what will I need to prepare on my own?
The kit supplies most of the consumables you'll need for the projects as presented in this course. You'll need standard dye-studio supplies, such as containers, access to a sink, and so on. Nothing in the kit is toxic but if you're planning on appearing in public in the near future, you may want to wear gloves to protect your hands from stains. All of the fabric included in the kit is traditional Japanese width, roughly 14" wide and varying lengths. I recommend having an embroidery hoop on hand to help keep the fabric stretched taut while painting. I recommend a 12" to 16" diameter size. I prefer wood.

What happens if I'm not able to attend a session?
No problem. We all have busy schedules. You'll be able to view the sessions through LessonFace for a limited amount of time after the class has ended. You'll also be able to download and save the recordings from this class page. Once they are available, the link will be posted next to the numbered session, to the left.

How long will this class web page be available to us?
This web page will remain active and available to you until April 15, 2025.

Why is there no sound on the Vimeo links?
The Vimeo links are to the video clips I've prepared for use in our gatherings – just a bit higher resolution and no bumps. They have no sound since I use them to speak over in class, and you won't be able to download them.

Do I need a password to access any of the links or recordings?
Yes. Use the access code MAFAindigo

What other courses do you offer?
A full list of the courses I offer, currently scheduled or not, may be found on my web page at

Do you have a newsletter?
Yes. The best way to stay current on my upcoming courses, gatherings, and offerings is to sign up for my newsletters. I email them out roughly once a month and include Japanese culture and fiber related topics. Sign up here:
