Buddhist temple uchishiki (altar piece). Metallic laminate on paper (old style). My guess is that this is gold, but I haven't tested for it. Very dark navy blue weft, very fine red warp - giving it a slightly purple cast when viewed from the side. Silk. Cotton backing. Casing at top for hanging. Text on back gives donors' names, but no date. Excellent condition.
