Ever wonder how those exquisite kimono silk prints from Japan are produced? John will be guiding you through designing and carving your own stencils using traditional materials as well as giving you the opportunity to work with traditional collections.

We'll be producing our own pigments and extracts to use in the printing process and supplementing these, as desired, with natural dyes and pigments commonly associated with this ages old process.

This course focuses on using 3D relief items to create intricate imagery on silks and cottons. We'll be using carved wooden blocks, plants, doodahs, and even fish from Pikes Market to create our fibrous treasures.

As with the other class, we'll be producing our own pigments and extracts to use in the printing process. These will be supplemented with an abundance of natural dyes and pigments from Japan to give us a full pallete of colors to choose from.
